Good practice objective, aim, context
The European project “L-PACK 2: Citizenship Language Pack For Migrants in Europe - Extended” started in January 2014 and took its name from the previous project L-PACK that produced an online A2 level course of colloquial Italian, Spanish, German, Lithuanian, Greek and Czech as second language addressed to adult migrants. The L-PACK 1 course consisting of 60 short videos with dialogues related to everyday life supported by grammar and comprehension activities had a big success and the materials, available on YouTube, Wikibooks and Soundcloud, were consulted in 146 countries by 120.000 learners. However, there was lack of English and French versions, therefore the Consortium of 8 partners, among which several training organisations and 2 Universities, decided to improve it.

By adding also tools for learning English and French, L-Pack covers the eight languages used in Europe. Among them, the most popular ones: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian.

Actors and target group
L-PACK is addressed to language teachers, researchers of linguistic and educational fields, adult education providers, adult migrants in Italy, Lithuania, Germany, Spain, Greece, Czech Republic, France and English speaking countries, organisations helping migrants’ integration in these countries or people interested in learning one of the target languages.

Methodological approach
The L-Pack training course includes:
videos that correspond to the dialogues of the written materials
written materials (dialogues, exercises, grammar, and cultural information) available in PDF format and divided into 30 units
2 guides on how to use the training course (one for teachers and one for learners)
Audio tracks that correspond to the dialogues of the written material.
It possible to download the written materials (dialogues, exercises, grammar, and cultural information), the guides, or to find a link to the L-Pack audios and videos via the L-Pack website.
L-Pack can also be used to practise pronunciation through the specially designed learning platform, which allows to record one’s voice and create a personal learning plan. This service is available via the the ‘Personal space’ area of the website or the learning platform.

The topics for the 12 topics focused in L-Pack 1 were selected by the target group: Migrants in the different countries. They asked for the development of dialogues related to their daily life such as Health, Shopping, Labour office, Looking for an apartment, Looking for a job.

Due to the fact that L-Pack allows self-learning and learning in courses for eight European languages there is a substantial impact in Europe.

L-Pack combined A2 language learning with the possibilities of modern digital learning (e.g. videos, downloads, Personal Area, App)

Since the tool is for free, there is no need to make it replicable. However, it could be improved by adding more languages.

The project was awarded the European Language Label in Germany in 2012. The jury appreciated that the access for A2 learners was easy as well as the amount of videos, scripts and exercises available for the different languages.
The L-Pack concept was selected twice for co-funding by the European Commission.

The innovative approach of learning foreign language for level A2 in eight European languages is valuable to be a Good Practice on European level.
